Why I Look for Patterns Instead of Chasing Symptoms

I hear this all of the time…

“I’m bloated.”

“I’m exhausted.”

“My hormones are a mess.”

People come to me believing they have one problem they need to solve.

But at the end of nearly every Intake Session, we’ve uncovered several symptoms that all may actually connected.

This is one of the first things I do – step back and look for patterns.

Someone might think they have:

  • Fatigue

But they also mention:

  • Afternoon energy crashes
  • Cravings
  • Poor sleep
  • Difficulty losing weight

Or, they come to me for:

  • Bloating

But mention:

  • Constipation
  • Acne
  • Headaches
  • Painful periods

A single symptom rarely tells us the whole story.

But when we step back and look at several symptoms together, we often begin to see patterns that point us toward the body system that may need the most support.

And when we focus on supporting that system, it’s common to see improvements across multiple symptoms—not just the one that brought someone in.

In my intake questionnaire and our subsequent 90 minute call, I ask things like:

  • When did this start?
  • Were there any changes around this time?
  • Are there certain foods, situations, or times of day when they’re worse?
  • What have you already tried?
  • What helped – even if just a little?

Each answer helps me fill in a piece of the puzzle from them.

When you’re living with these symptoms every day, it’s incredibly difficult to step back and see the bigger picture.

That’s where an outside perspective can be so valuable.

My job isn’t just to look at your symptoms—it’s to look at how they fit together.

If we only chase symptoms, we often end up with:

  • Another supplement
  • Another elimination diet
  • Another medication
  • Another quick fix

There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of those tools. In fact, they can all be incredibly helpful when they’re used for the right reason.

But if we’re only reacting to the next symptom that pops up, we may miss the bigger picture.

That’s why I spend time looking for patterns first. Once we have a better understanding of what’s driving your symptoms, we can make recommendations that are intentional, strategic, and personalized to you.

I might have two women come to me who are both complaining of fatigue, but who need two very different approaches.

One woman might benefit most from:

  • Blood sugar support
  • More protein
  • Stress management

Another may benefit more from:

  • Comprehensive blood work
  • Stool testing
  • Hormone evaluation

Same symptom…different path forward.

Your symptoms aren’t random.

They are pieces of a puzzle.

On their own, they may not make much sense.

But together, they tell a story. And when we start looking for patterns instead of treating one symptom at a time, that’s often where the real progress begins.

If you’ve been bouncing from one symptom to the next without getting the answers you’re looking for, I’d love to help.

Schedule a complimentary Discovery Call, and let’s start looking at the bigger picture together.
