One of the most common things I hear from women is:
“I think my hormones are out of whack.”
That was exactly how one client came to me.
She was dealing with:
- brain fog
- fatigue
- cycle-related changes
- symptoms she assumed were hormone-related
And honestly, I totally understood why.
Many of these symptoms are commonly associated with hormone imbalances, especially during perimenopause.
But as we started talking through her health history, something else caught my attention.
The Clues She Wasn’t Focused On
While she came in concerned about hormones, she was also experiencing:
• frequent bloating
• inconsistent bowel movements
• digestive discomfort
Interestingly, these weren’t the symptoms she was most concerned about.
Like many women, she viewed them as separate issues—or simply something she had learned to live with.
But from my perspective, those digestive symptoms deserved a closer look.
So instead of jumping straight to hormone testing, we decided to start with her gut health.
Looking Beyond the Symptoms
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is assuming they already know the cause of their symptoms.
Sometimes they’re right.
Sometimes they’re partly right.
And sometimes there’s another piece of the puzzle that deserves attention first.
In this case, we focused on strengthening her foundations and investigating her digestive health more closely.
We also made practical changes to support her body.
One example?
She was heavily relying on processed cheddar crackers as a daily snack. Rather than creating a long list of food restrictions, we found alternatives she genuinely enjoyed and could realistically stick with.
Small changes often create bigger results than people expect..
What Happened Next
As her digestion improved, something interesting happened.
Her energy improved.
Her brain fog improved.
Her bloating improved.
And many of the symptoms she originally believed were hormone-related started improving as well.
We never ended up needing hormone testing.
Not because hormones weren’t part of the equation.
What This Means For You
This doesn’t mean every hormone-related symptom starts in the gut.
And it certainly doesn’t mean everyone should skip hormone testing.
What it does mean is that symptoms don’t always tell us where to start.
The body is interconnected.
Digestive health can influence nutrient absorption, inflammation, hormone metabolism, and many other processes throughout the body.
That’s why I spend so much time helping clients determine the right starting point instead of jumping straight to the latest test, supplement, or protocol.
The Bigger Picture
If you’re feeling bloated, tired, foggy, or simply not like yourself, the question may not be:
“What supplement should I take?”
Or even:
“What test should I order?”
A better question might be:
“What is my body trying to tell me?”
Because sometimes the biggest breakthrough comes from looking in a place you hadn’t considered.
And that’s why finding the right starting point matters.
If you’re tired of guessing, trying random supplements, or wondering whether you need more support or deeper investigation, that’s exactly what my Discovery Calls are for.
Together, we’ll talk through your symptoms, health history, and current habits to determine the best place to start.
