The Holiday Season is Here!
Wow, how did we get to November already? With Halloween barely behind us, we’re reminded just how quickly the next couple of months will fly by!
These are the months when our calendars fill up with gatherings, school events, shopping, travel, and that’s on top of our already busy lives.
It’s easy to think, I’ll just get back on track in January.
In fact, I have a dear friend who refers to December as “Dumpster December” because she knows she tends to treat her body like garbage all month. 😂
And while it’s great to indulge during the holidays, adopting a less all-or-nothing approach to our routines and nutrition choices means we can enjoy ourselves without feeling like we’ve completely fallen off track.
What if your November and December could feel more balanced, with a little indulgence too?!
The All-Or-Nothing Trap
Don’t let yourself get stuck in the all-or-nothing trap.
- You miss a couple of workouts, so you just throw in the towel until January.
- You indulge a little too much at a holiday meal and figure the whole weekend is a wash, so why bother reeling it back in?
- Your schedule gets busy, so you stay up late shopping online, skip meal planning, and taking time for yourself falls to the bottom of your list.
One meal, one missed workout, or even one busy week doesn’t undo all the good you’re doing for yourself.
Take a breath and use each day as an opportunity to start again. No guilt, shame, or “shoulds” necessary!
And no, you don’t need a detox, cleanse, or restrictive January reset to make up for enjoying the holidays.
Keep a Few Foundations in Place
You don’t have to do “everything right” to keep your foundation strong. In fact, if these foundations are part of your routine and lifestyle most of the time, those little hiccups won’t matter nearly as much.
Here are some simple anchors to help keep your body balanced, even when the season tries to throw us off balance.

Nourish yourself consistently
Eat regular, balanced meals with protein, colorful plants, and nourishing fats. Skipping meals to save up for a holiday dinner can leave you overly hungry later.
Enjoy your favorite holiday foods! Starting your meal with some protein can help support balanced blood sugar and keep you feeling satisfied.

Move in ways that fit your schedule
Your usual workouts might not always happen, and that’s okay.
Walking after a meal, taking the dog outside, or doing a quick strength session still counts. Movement doesn’t need to be an elaborate production.

Protect your sleep
Sleep is often one of the first things we sacrifice when the calendar fills up.
Good sleep supports our energy, appetite regulation, blood sugar balance, and recovery. Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep with consistent bedtimes and wake times.
This matters more than you think, especially when life is busy. Want to give your immune system some extra support during cold and flu season? SLEEP!

Make room for recovery
The holidays can be full of wonderful things, AND they still add to our overall stress load. Even positive experiences require energy.
What helps you recharge? A quiet morning, a walk outside, laughing with a friend, or simply saying no to another obligation?
Don’t forget that “No” is a complete sentence. A beautiful mentor taught me that! 😊
You Don’t Have to do Everything
Even when life gets busy, can you take one evening for yourself to do something that brings you joy? Just 1–2 hours out of your whole week.
Maybe it’s a yoga class, dancing in your house to your favorite song, walking your dog, or grabbing dinner with a friend.
Taking care of yourself should be something we schedule into our calendars, just like everything else!
And when you can’t, can you simply pause 2–3 times throughout your day, put your hand on your heart, and take 3 deep, slow breaths?
Everyone is different. What helps you feel your best when life gets hectic?
Pick just one small thing you can keep consistent over the next several weeks. Write it down on a Post-it note and stick it on your mirror!
This season doesn’t need to be a test of your willpower, so perfection is not the goal. Maybe your self-care looks different each week. Just be intentional.
A Little Consistency Goes a Long Way
I’m not here to tell you to add another “health stack” to this already busy season. There’s enough of that online!
Just pick something simple and doable that you can come back to each week, or maybe each day.
Balanced meals and sleep are two foundations that can support your energy, hormones, and digestion without relying on fancy supplements or devices.
And carving out space just for YOU can make a big difference in how you feel mentally and emotionally.
Enjoy the holidays, including the indulgences. Just do it with intention.
And remember, you don’t have to wait until January to start feeling better. Sometimes it’s the small things you keep doing consistently that make the biggest difference.
