Most people I work with are not starting from zero. They already know they should drink water, eat vegetables, get enough protein, sleep, move, and reduce stress.
But knowing is different from understanding how to actually implement these things into your life.
The health and wellness space can start to feel overwhelming. Like you’re not doing things “right” unless you have this comprehensive list of things you should be doing.
But knowing which of those things will make the biggest difference for YOU is where the real magic happens.
More information can actually make things harder
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “paralysis by analysis.”
You start analyzing all of the wellness tips until you don’t even know what to think anymore.
One day you’re supposed to work out fasted. The next, you hear that maybe fasting works better for men than women.
Then you hear that low-carb is the way to go…until you hear that maybe going too low-carb isn’t supporting your hormones.
Then there’s the latest supplement that promises to be the magic solution to all of your symptoms…
It’s easy to get stuck and overwhelmed with so many conflicting anecdotes – and even conflicting research studies!
Knowing what’s healthy is different from knowing what YOU need
I’ve talked about this before, but it’s worth repeating.
Two different clients can have the same symptoms but actually need to start in completely different places.
Maybe both are struggling with low energy and fatigue, but when I look closer…
- One is barely eating enough calories and has low energy availability from chronic restriction. We talk about how adequately nourishing her body can support energy, help her feel stronger, and better support her body composition goals.
- The other is also dealing with gastrointestinal symptoms. We run a stool test and find an imbalance that needs to be addressed. Once we support and rebalance her gut, she notices a significant improvement in her energy.
We need to dig deeper than the surface-level symptom and figure out where YOU need the most support.
A plan should reduce overwhelm, not create more of it
Unfortunately, I know many people who have gone down the functional medicine path and walked away completely overwhelmed.
The practitioner may have identified important areas to work on, but then gives them WAY too much to change at once – a major diet overhaul, a long list of supplements, and more functional labs than they have the mental or financial capacity for.
I pride myself on meeting you where YOU are.
I consider the capacity you actually have for change, and we talk about what feels realistic and doable for you.
You are an integral part of establishing your short-term goals – what you should focus on first – which may include nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement support.
The goal is for you to walk away from our first session feeling confident and hopeful, not overwhelmed.
Why consistency usually beats complexity
Even if your capacity is limited because of what’s going on in your life or your health, there is almost always a place to start.
Rather than trying to implement 15 different things perfectly and getting overwhelmed a week later, we might start with 1–5 things you can realistically follow through on.
Once those become more established habits, we build from there.
How to figure out where to start
Consider the habits that you already know make you feel better when you do them consistently.
Do any of these statements feel true for you?
- I feel more energized when I sleep 7–9 hours per night.
- I don’t crash in the afternoon when I eat a protein-rich breakfast.
- Exercise and movement feel easier when I’m drinking enough water.
- My digestion feels more consistent when I eat more whole foods.
Choose just one place to start and build some consistency.
Once that one feels easier, add another.
You probably don’t need MORE advice.
You may just need clarity around what deserves your attention first.
That’s the difference between collecting information and having a plan that works for YOU.
Not sure what deserves your attention first?
If you feel like you’re doing a lot “right” but still don’t feel your best, sometimes an outside perspective helps.
A complimentary Discovery Call gives us a chance to talk through what’s been going on, what you’ve already tried, and whether working together might help you get clearer on your next step.
